Ed Collier Wins Five County Bassmasters Two Day Event At Santee Cooper

For the first time in club history, the Five County Bassmasters ventured out of state to take on a new body of water. The location – Santee Cooper, South Carolina. Thanks to the accommodation preparation of club member Allan Sudman the Five County Bassmasters were afforded the opportunity to fish on this nationally known fishery for two days. Cooler weather in the days preceding the event made for a tougher bite, but nevertheless the Santee Cooper lakes showed a hint of what they have to offer.

Ed Collier led the way on day one with a five fish limit that weighed 16.76 pounds. Curtis Johnson filled the second position with only three fish, but an impressive weight of 15.78 pounds, including the lunker for the event that tipped the scales at 6.96 pounds. Jeff Narron followed in the third spot with four fish weighing 13.14 pounds.

Day two found Ed Collier in the top spot once again with a five fish limit weighing 20.08 pounds, including two fish weighing over six pounds each. Second and third positions on day number two were repeats from day one as well with Curtis Johnson bringing four fish at 16.85 pounds to the scales while Jeff Narron had four fish for a weight of 10.07 pounds.

Winning angler Ed Collier caught all of his fish on docks using various soft plastics. The majority of the fish for second and third place anglers Curtis Johnson and Jeff Narron came from docks with the use of soft plastics and jigs. What is interesting is the fact that each of these three anglers frequented the same area of docks and on Sunday alone this 3/4 mile stretch of docks produced 13 fish weighing close to 47 pounds.

The final weight for the top five were as follows: Ed Collier (10 Fish) 36.84 pounds, Curtis Johnson (7 Fish) 32.63 pounds, Jeff Narron (8 Fish) 23.21 pounds, Perry Doan (2 Fish) 7.57 pounds, and Tim Gardner (3 Fish) 6.65 pounds.

The Angler of the Year chase now shifts around a bit after this event with Ed Collier on top with 189 points. Curtis Johnson and Jeff Narron are tied up for the second spot with 187 points. Tim Gardner holds the fourth position with 184 points and Scottie Braswell rounds out the top five with 175 points.
