Danny Hayes wins Five County Bassmasters season opening event

After a couple of years away from the club tournament scene, Danny Hayes returned to his roots with the Five County Bassmasters and started his new season off with a win at the March 12th event on the Roanoke River at Plymouth, NC. Hayes weighed an impressive five fish, 14.17 pound, limit that included the 5.40 pound lunker of the event. With his win and bonus points for landing the lunker, Hayes now has a good jump start on Angler Of The Year honors.

Catching his fish on wood cover using a crankbait, Hayes indicated that there were a few key elements to finding the bites. A combination of wind, river/creek bends, and exact water depth were vital in his win. “If I didn’t have the perfect boat positioning, in the correct water depth, I could not get a bite” said Hayes.

Filling the second position with four fish that crossed the scales at 8.66 pounds was the team of Jeff Narron and Tim Gardner. Narron and Gardner used Texas rigged soft plastics to entice their bites and also indicated that river/creek bends were part of their game plan as well.

Brent Boyette and Andy Evans partnered up and took home the third spot with a five fish limit that weighed 7.71 pounds.

Fourth place went to Mike Brinchek with 7.64 pounds and rounding out the top five was the team of Ed Collier and Fred Bass with a weight of 7.56 pounds.
