The Five County Bassmasters visited Falls Lake for tournament event number five of the season. Overcast skies and cooler temperatures welcomed the anglers for much of the morning, but when the clouds broke and the temps started to increase, so did the bite for the eventual winners.
Jeff Narron and Tim Gardner walked away with the win with a total of 17.15 lbs, including the 5.25 lb lunker for the event. The duo concentrated on deeper river channels with sharp breaks on the channel edges. All of the fish came on deep-diving crankbaits in roughly 10 to 12 feet of water on these sharp breaks. “You had to be hitting the bottom and the cover with the crankbait” said Narron. “We lost four or five crankbaits today from hanging up in the cover, but that’s where the fish were, right on the edge of the drop in the nastiest stuff you could find.”
Mike Brinchek and Clay House took home second place honors with 9.26 lbs. Brinchek stated that their fish came on Carolina-rigged soft plastics. Third place went to Curtis Johnson and Grey Bailey with a total of 8.84 lbs. Rounding out the top five included the fourth place team of Joey and Wayne Worley with 7.79 lbs and the fifth place duo of Perry Doan and Wayne Horton with 6.04 lbs.
Tim Garner now takes a mere one point lead in the AOY standings over Joey Worley and Wayne Worley, both tied for second. With only three events left in the season, the race for the AOY award will surely be an exciting battle to the end.
