Last Chance for Full and Permanent Funding of Land and Water Conservation Fund
Take Action!
In the last moments of the 2010 Congress a final opportunity to fully and permanently fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has arisen. Several Congressmen, including Representatives Butterfield and Shuler from North Carolina, have initiated a “Dear Colleague” letter to their fellow congressmen asking them to support full and permanent funding for LWCF in the budget resolution.
Funding for the LWCF is not tax money but comes from a small allotment from the offshore drilling leases collected each year and serves as mitigation for possible adverse impacts to fish and wildlife resources. The funds are used by the states to purchase and protect valuable fish and wildlife habitats and provide enhanced opportunities for public hunting, fishing, water quality improvements, and other outdoor recreation.
Please consider sending the message included here to your Congressman or Congresswoman by clicking the “Take Action” link (Above) and following instructions. Do it today because the sign on deadline for additional Congressmen is noon Thursday, December 16, 2010.
