Support NC Senator Burr’s efforts for Gamelands and Trout Stream Protections

NC Senator Richard Burr has turned his own passion for hunting, fishing and a love for the natural resources of North Carolina into a lead role calling for full and dedicated funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).  As the only Republican co-sponsor of S. 2747, the Land and Water Conservation Authorization and Funding Act, his critical support has led other members of both parties to join the effort to get a provision with full and dedicated funding passed in this Congress.

The LWCF monies have been spent to create gamelands and wildlife corridors from the coast to the western boundary, as well as to build parks, ball fields and trails in every county in the state.  Senator Burr knows that outdoor activities such as hunting and hiking account for $730 billion a year in our national economy, supports 6.5 million jobs and stimulates 8% of all consumer spending.

Land and Water Conservation Fund
The Land and Water Conservation Fund is the federal program to conserve irreplaceable lands and improve outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the nation. The program works in partnership with state and local efforts to acquire and protect in holdings and expansions in our national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, national trails, and BLM areas. LWCF grants to states support the acquisition and development of state and local parks and recreational facilities. But the program has been chronically underfunded leading to a number of missed opportunities for investing in important areas.

How is the LWCF Funded? The Land and Water Conservation Fund’s goal is to balance the loss of one natural resource—offshore oil and gas—by using a portion of drilling fees to protect important land and water elsewhere. It does not raise nor use tax monies!

Take Action

Please TAKE ACTION to thank our senior Senator for being a national leader in preserving North Carolina’s precious natural resources and the vital outdoor recreation economy. A 90 second phone call within the next 24 hours can make the difference if hunters and anglers are heard. Senator Burr’s Office phone is (202) 224-3154.

A simple but effective message to leave with the Senator’s Office to encourage him to stay the course for sportsmen is:
“As a fellow North Carolina outdoorsman, I would like to thank you for co-sponsoring S. 2747, the Land and Water Conservation Authorization and Funding Act, to ensure that North Carolina’s precious natural and outdoor recreation resources are secured for future generations.”

Also, if you would call NC’s other Senator, Kay Hagan and encourage her to support LWCF and Senator Burr’s leadership for natural resources.

Simply call Senator Hagan’s Office at 202-224-6342 and tell Her:
“As a hunter/angler who cherishes North Carolina’s natural resources I ask you to please relay to Senator Hagan that I support full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund and I urge her to join Senator Burr in co-sponsoring Senate Bill 2747, the Land and Water Conservation Authorization and Funding Act to ensure that North Carolina’s precious natural and outdoor recreation resources are secured for future generations.”
